Abstract. The article is devoted to the peculiarities of constructing the image of the United States on the pages of Crocodile magazine in the late Soviet era. The analysis of the cartoons reveals the techniques which were used to create a negative image of a foreign policy opponent and its policies for Soviet readers. Сartoonists relied on the stereotypes that Soviet citizens had formed about the US as an aggressive, money-grubbing state. At the same time the cartoonists highlighted those features of the US image that were antithetical to the achievements of the USSR as presented in Soviet propaganda.
Keywords: caricature, propaganda, US image, enemy image, Crocodile magazine
