Abstract. This article presents an analysis of various classifications of social identity, a comparative analysis of Western and domestic thought in the field of studying social identity. The purpose of the study was to study the features of the process of self-determination of modern youth during the period of entering adulthood. The methods of our research were the analysis of primary sources, articles and Internet sources, as well as secondary literature analysis, comparative analysis. Understanding the processes taking place in the lives of young people will allow us to trace the changes that occurred as a result of the transformation processes in Russia at the end of the XX century, since it was this group of people who experienced the process of socialization in the new reality. Based on the analysis, the conditions and factors affecting the formation of the social identity of young people are identified.
