Abstract. The article examines the concept of genocide within the historiography of the history of Finland’s occupation regime in the territory of the Karelo-Finnish Soviet Socialist Republic (KFSSR) during the Great Patriotic War. The study seeks to assess both the appropriateness of applying the term genocide to the experiences of the Soviet people and the accuracy of the chronological framework surrounding this phenomenon. Through the research, the author demonstrates that the legal definition of genocide is indeed applicable in describing Finland's policies towards the Slavic population in the occupied region of Karelia from 1941 to 1942.
Keywords: occupation of Karelia, war crimes, crimes against childhood, genocide
