Abstract. This article presents a comparative analysis of the regulations of the various states regarding the rights of indigenous peoples to self-government and related rights, both among themselves and on their compliance with the universally recognized principles and norms of international law. As a result, consideration of the matter revealed significant differences in the application of international legal norms in different countries, which is associated primarily with the generality and flexibility of these rules, as well as with the States to treat them in the local context and their understanding. It was concluded that any approach to ensuring these rights is acceptable, but without the proper level of substantive and procedural data to ensure rights of indigenous peoples should not be considered guaranteed.
Keywords: indigenous peoples, self-government, international law, foreign experience.
