Abstract. To perform its tasks and functions the government purchases the necessary goods, works and services. Acting on the demand side, the government carries out budget spending. It is especially important that public resources are used as efficiently as possible. For these purposes the public procurement system was created, and in particular, the required definition of the initial (maximum) contract price. The article considers the initial (maximum) contract price as one of the ways to ensure the efficiency and effectiveness of budget spending.
