Abstract. The article compares foreign and Russian approaches to integrating artificial intelligence into foreign language teaching, as reflected in the academic activities of students at the Institute of Foreign Languages of Petrozavodsk State University. A survey revealed that future teachers are familiar with AI technologies but use them intuitively, without a clear strategy. Respondents also favor a hybrid model that would preserve human-led live communication and cultural mediation. The study concludes by highlighting the need for practical courses to develop competencies in the responsible use of AI in education.
Keywords: artificial intelligence, foreign language education, teacher competencies, digital transformation of education, pedagogical hybridization
