Abstract. This article examines the tactics employed by the reconnaissance units of the Baltic Fleet and the Wehrmacht during the Siege of Leningrad. Through a detailed examination of a series of clashes between German reconnaissance teams and Soviet defensive positions, it highlights the nature of combat during the winter of 1941–1942. The active advances by the enemy compelled Soviet military command to bolster coastal patrols with additional scouts and to deploy specialized units of hunters to counteract German observation posts.
