Abstract. The article examines the biographical portrayal of Maxim Gorky through the lens of two different approaches: Henri Troyat’s fictional biography and Mitsos Alexandropoulos’ biographical fiction. A comparative analysis of these works highlights the features of their narrative structure, the biographer’s attitude toward his hero, and the perception of historical reality. Special attention is given to Gorky’s early literary steps, his relationships with prominent contemporaries such as Chekhov, and the authors’ views on Gorky’s role within the Soviet regime.
Keywords: Gorky, Troyat, Alexandropoulos, fictional biography, biographical fiction, Soviet literature
