 Abstract. This article explores the history and development of the sambo school in Petrozavodsk, focusing on Ilya Romanovich Shegelman's significant contributions to the formation and development of the city's sports culture. It examines his unique approach to training athletes and highlights the accomplishments of the successful students in various levels of sports competitions.
