Abstract. The article explores the role of epithets in the early works of Nikolay Gumilyov and Maximilian Voloshin. The aim of the study was to describe and compare the differences in the meanings and functions of epithets in the poetry collections of Gumilyov and Voloshin published before 1910. A total of 3,809 epithets were analyzed. Through this analysis, there were observed external similarities in their poetics; however, a closer examination of the use of epithets revealed distinct features of each author's worldview reflected in their choice of lexemes.
Keywords: epithet, thematic epithet groups, poetic language, Nikolay Gumilyov, Maximilian Voloshin, individual author's worldview
