Abstract. This article examines how the concept of "fascism" has been understood within the academic community throughout the 20th century and into the early 21st century. It presents various approaches to the study of fascism, evaluates its portrayal in political documents, and provides multiple definitions of the phenomenon, including those derived from primary sources. Additionally, it discusses perspectives from both Russian and international scholars on the significance of formulating a clear definition of the term, which could enhance legal practices aimed to counteract the rehabilitation of fascist ideology in today's world.
Keywords: fascism, neo-fascism, nazism, neo-nazism, paramilitarism, Marxist approach, palingenetic ultranationalism
