Abstract. This article examines the challenges encountered by district notaries in the Olonets Province following the implementation of the 1866 Notarial Statute. Using the career of Ivan Grigorovich as a case study, it highlights not only the unique aspects of his professional journey but also broader issues and trends that were characteristic of the notarial institution in Olonets province during the pre-revolutionary period. These include the low educational levels of applicants for junior notary positions and the difficulty of earning a sufficient livelihood due to the limited number of transactions.
Keywords: traveling notary, record of service, Petrozavodsk District Court, court ruling, notarial register, civil registers
