Mining Officers of Olonets Factories During the Napoleonic Wars (1805–1814)

Abstract. The Olonets factories, managed by mining officers, were the leading enterprises in pre-revolutionary Karelia. This article aims to characterize the mining officers of the Olonets factories during the Napoleonic Wars from 1805 to 1814, a critical period for Russia. Utilizing formal records of service, the article reveals the dynamics of the numbers of mining officers, their backgrounds, educational levels, and professional activities. The findings indicate that during this period, the career advancement of mining officers was influenced by their educational qualifications, work experience, and diligence.
