Abstract. This article explores the theme of women's self-determination in Virginia Woolf's novel Mrs. Dalloway. The study aims to determine the place and significance of female self-determination within the broader context of the novel's themes. Utilizing cultural-historical, descriptive, and structural methods, the research characterizes the protagonist, Clarissa Dalloway, and formalizes the gender, personal, and existential dimensions of self-determination. The analysis reveals a profound connection between the existential aspect of self-determination and the central conflict of the novel: the choice between life and death.
Keywords: self-determination, identity, modernism, image, stream of consciousness, novel, psychological novel, modernist prose
