Abstract. This paper examines Russian-Persian relations in the first third of the 19th century, focusing on the extradition of a battalion of Russian deserters during the period from 1810 to the late 1830s. The resolution of this issue reflects the changing attitudes of Persia towards the Russian Empire over several decades. Ultimately, the agreement on the extradition of the deserters led to the establishment of friendly relations between Persia and the Russian Empire and influenced Russia's support in modernizing Persia's armed forces.
