Abstract. The article aims to analyze the semantics of zoomorphisms within the thematic group of "mammalian primates". The study is based on a selection of zoomorphisms with metaphorical meanings sourced from explanatory dictionaries and the Russian National Corpus (which served as the primary corpus). To conduct the analysis, the author employed continuous sampling as well as componential, semantic, descriptive, and comparative approaches. The findings reveal the polysemy of these zoomorphisms and confirm the hypothesis that they are often used to describe human appearance and behavior. Notably, the meanings associated with these zoomorphisms predominantly carry negative connotations.
Keywords: zoomorphisms, Russian National Corpus, evaluative component, metaphor
