Abstract. The article describes the concept of teaching practice, reveals its goals, tasks and basic functions responsible for the formation of professional competence among future teachers. The article presents an analysis of the results of the teaching practice of 4th year students of the Institute of Foreign Languages of Petrozavodsk State University, due to which the problems encountered by the trainees in the first teaching practice and their reasons were identified.
