Abstract. The article analyzes the factors influencing the social identity of Petrozavodsk State University students who participated in exchange programs with Finland. Special attention is paid to a large number of interactions within the framework of educational activities of such cross-border territories as the Republic of Karelia and Finland. On the basis of this cooperation, new work and educational orientations of students are formed, even the transformation of life trajectories and goals becomes possible. For this reason, we can talk about the emergence of a new factor affecting the formation of social identity. This suggests that the territories of the Russian Federation located on the border with other states have unique regional factors that form a special set of identities of young people.
