Housing Construction in the City of Petrozavodsk During the Brezhnev Era

 Abstract. The construction history of the city of Petrozavodsk during the 1960s to early 1980s holds significant and captivating facts that remain relevant today. It is crucial to understand the reasons and factors that contributed to the rapid growth of urban development during this time in Petrozavodsk, while also considering the distinct characteristics and consequences of new urban areas. By studying the experiences of the Karelian Republic's capital, the paper uncovers both accomplishments and challenges in Karelia's construction industry during the specified period. Despite a number of deficiencies and the necessity to preserve temporary barrack-type housing, the city expanded and created distinctive neighborhoods, partially resolving the demographic problem.
